Protein provides 4 calories per gram. Carbohydrates also provide 4 calories per gram and fats provide 9 calories per gram. Protein helps build and repair muscle, it aids in healing, and helps build bones ! It addition, protein aids in many hormone and enzyme functions!

Animal protein provides iron, iodine, zinc, selenium, niacin, and multiple b vitamins. Some sources recommend up to 100g of protein per day which would account for approximately 400 calories per day.

Chicken provides the most protein per 100g (appx 32g) followed closely by beef which provides 26g and then pork at appx 19g. Adequate protein intake is important to optimizing your body and healing properties!
